Culture Project

Since the night of February 24th, 2022, Ukraine is under a full-scale attack of Russia. Ukraine is now bravely fighting the Russian occupiers, defending their homeland, their freedom, and future of democracy. Russian missiles and air strikes are targeted for civil zones. Russian Federation air forces uses cassette and non—controlling bombs. All this leads to destroying of homes, hospital, and death of innocent civilians, as well as cultural and UNESCO heritage sites. This unprovoked aggression from Russian Federation is directed against Ukrainian culture, heritage, language, and ethnicity. As president Biden recently mentioned, this war is an act of pure genocide of Ukrainian people.

We have been helping Ukrainian refugees since 2014, with most of our efforts directed toward Eastern Ukraine, working with displaced refugees, orphans, and children from troubled families. We have completed numerous projects, providing significant donations in monetary and humanitarian aid to those in need. Now, with this unprovoked aggression from Russian Federation, help is needed more than ever. As another project, we would like to make world aware of rich Ukrainian culture, music, and art. We would like to organize musical tour of The Ukrainian Youth Academic Symphony Orchestra (YASO) “Slobozhanskiy” across the United States with a rich musical program filled with emotional pieces by Ukrainian composers.

The YASO "Slobozhansky" (established in 1993) is a unique team of musicians in Ukraine. The orchestra includes laureates of numerous international and all—Ukrainian competitions, ambitious musicians from all over Ukraine.

For more than 25 years the orchestra has collaborated with outstanding conductors and performers, including: Elizabeth Pitcairn (USA) who is noted for performing on the "Red Mendelssohn" Antonio Stradivari violin, Lészlo Fenyo (Hungary), Theodor Kuchar (USA), David Drummond (Great Britain), Czech rock band "The Plastic People of the Universe", Arkady Shilkloper (Germany), Vladimir Krainev (Germany), Vladimir Sirenko (Ukraine), Gavriel Heine (USA), Sergey Stilmashenko (France), Evgeniya Miroshnichenko (Ukraine), Nikolay Dyadyura (Ukraine), Balazs Sokoloi (Hungary) and many others.

In December 2016, the YASO “Slobozhansky” together with world-class musicians participated in The International Charity Project "Classic Extravaganza" aimed at raising the level of culture in the Kharkiv region and helping children from socially disadvantaged groups.

Today we have an aim to collect $100,000 to cover costs of transportation and stay in USA of the orchestra. All the proceeds from the concert will go to Ukraine war relief funds.

Your donation today to Direct Help Foundation Cultural Fund, can help us reach our goal, and help to spread the word that Ukrainian culture is rich and diverse.
